Ryan Rice, Pharmacy Benefit Change Leader
Through the Pharmacy Looking Glass, Empowering Informed ConsumerismMore about Ryan Rice
With the better part of a decade’s experience in the healthcare and pharmacy benefit management (PBM) industry, Ryan has been a trusted advocate, helping plan sponsors develop leading pharmacy strategies and solutions that have shaped measurable plan savings and quality program management outcomes.
In addition to leading business development activities for a fully pass through and transparent PBM, Ryan has focused his career on developing aligned partnerships with health plan/managed care entities and direct-to-employer, broker/TPA organizations. In addition to his business development and client management experience, Ryan also has extensive knowledge of procurement, pharmacy contracting, client collaboration, and business development.
Most notably, Ryan is an advocate of empowering plan sponsors to look closely at their partner contracts, applying a no-nonsense and candid point of view to hold partners accountable. He believes it is important for plan sponsors to understand the benefits of an alternative and holistic means of managing the pharmacy benefit by way of seeking transparent and pass-through business models. Ryan served as Strategic Pharmacy Operations Lead for Evolent Health, where he was responsible for developing strategic partnerships focused in the value-based care delivery model.
Previously, he spent three years as a consultant with The Burchfield Group, where he led procurement and consulting work for health plans and large employers. He initially gained extensive pharmacy benefit experience during his tenure with one of the industry’s largest PBMs, developing relationships in the managed care and employer space.
His collective experience gives Ryan a deep understanding of the varying operational and strategic nuances of managed care and employer organizations. Ryan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations and Marketing from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa.
